Sentinel Sun Sensors

SentinelSUN is Redwire’s line of sun sensor products produced in the US and designed to deliver reliable sun acquisition and attitude awareness across a wide range of spacecraft architectures. Its robust performance supports precise orientation and mission stability in even the most demanding environments.

Sun Sensors

Quad Sun Sensor

QSS uses a quad-element photodiode to measure the solar attitude angle in two axes. The QSS has buffered photo-diode outputs (four voltages) to determine solar attitude angle using Redwire-supplied transfer function and calibrated coefficients.

Sun Sensors

Coarse Sun Sensor Detector

Coarse Sun Sensor (CSS) Detector is a single element cosine-type sun angle sensor, outputting a short circuit current in proportion to illumination intensity. The CSS Detector can be fitted with a baffle to accommodate nearly any FOV restrictions, with ~100 baffle designs available. More than one thousand CSS Detectors have been delivered with 100% mission success.

Sun Sensors

Coarse Sun Sensor Pyramid

Coarse Sun Sensor (CSS) Pyramid is a 2-axis sensor containing four CSS Detectors, used for applications including solar array pointing, sun acquisition, and failsafe recovery. The CSS Pyramid consists of four CSS detectors on a common bracket, providing 2 axes of sun angle data. Each detector is canted ±45° from the vertical. The CSS Pyramid can be fitted with a set of custom baffles to accommodate nearly any FOV restrictions caused by other spacecraft elements. Many existing baffle designs are also available.
