Starfish Space’s Satellite Servicing Demo Mission Supported by Redwire’s SentinelCAM

Redwire’s SentinelCAM camera system is providing critical imagery capabilities for Starfish Space’s Otter Pup 2 demonstration mission. The camera system is enabling the Otter Pup 2 spacecraft to conduct rendezvous, proximity operations, and ultimately attempt docking with another spacecraft in low Earth orbit (LEO). If successful, Otter Pup 2 will be the first docking between two commercial satellites in LEO. Following the launch of Otter Pup 2 onboard the Transporter-14 mission in June, the SentinelCAM has been commissioned and operating successfully.

Starfish Space provides satellite servicing missions with its Otter vehicle, including life extension in geostationary orbit and disposal in low Earth orbit. The company was recently awarded a $52.5 million Space Development Agency contract to provide disposal services for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. Starfish is also executing Otter missions for NASA, the U.S. Space Force, and SES, building on Otter Pup 2 and other demonstration missions.

SentinelCAM for Otter Pup 2

Redwire’s SentinelCAM system provided for Otter Pup 2 has three total image sensors, including two stereo imagers. The data provided by these stereo imagers, in conjunction with Starfish’s computer vision algorithms, enables Otter Pup 2 to determine the relative position of its docking target, a critical capability needed to achieve mission success.
